2 Samuel 20: Sheba Rebels Against David
2 Samuel 21: The Gibeonites Avenged, Wars Against the Philistines
2 Samuel 22: David’s Song of Praise

2 Samuel 20:10, “Amasa was not on his guard against the dagger in Joab’s hand…”

NIV Study Bible Notes: For the second time Joab commits murder to secure his position as commander of David’s army.”

Joab killed Amasa just like he did Abner. Amasa lay wallowing in his blood and everyone stopped to look (see verse 12) just like they did to Joab’s brother, Asahel (see 2 Samuel 2:23).

Can you imagine Joab’s nightmares? First he is killing Abner, then Abner turns into Amasa. As Amasa lays wallowing in his own blood in the middle of the road he turns into Asahel, his brother.

Every time we hurt someone, we are hurting our own brother. There is no position worth that.
