Psalms 74: The psalm dates from the time of the exile when Israel had been destroyed as a nation, the promised land devastated and the temple reduced to ruins (see Lamentations 2).
Lamentations 3

Lamentations 3:24, “I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’ “

The city was in ruins. The people were captives. Their leaders and priests were dead. The only one they could turn to was God. They had to trust Him to take care of them. They had to wait for him to help them.

Waiting is hard; but we do not need to be idle. Ask God what he would have you do while you wait.
