Come On Over; Meet the Family

As I was thinking of tomorrow’s service, I considered fasting. After all, it couldn’t hurt.

I was astounded when I read today’s verses!

Isaiah 58:5-7, “Do you think the Lord wants you to give up eating and to act as humble as a bent-over bush? Or to dress in sackcloth and sit in ashes? Is this really what He wants on a day of worship? I’ll tell you what it really means to worship the Lord. Remove the chains of prisoners who are chained unjustly. Free those who are abused. Share your food with everyone who is hungry; share your home with the poor and homeless. Give clothes to those in need; don’t turn away your relatives.”

My grown, but not gone, daughter came in the room as I was reading the last verse and exclaimed,

“They’re talking about me!”

We are not getting together at church to humbly sit in sackcloth and ashes. We are there to witness God removing the chains from prisoners and freeing the abused!

We are to take care of each other:

  • Share our food with the hungry.
  • Share our home with the poor and homeless.
  • Give clothes to those in need, and
  • Not turn away our relatives.

I invite you to come and meet the family!
