John 7:52, “They replied, ‘Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.'” ESV
“The Pharisees challenged the statement that the people made concerning Christ being ‘the prophet’ (v.40). When Nicodemus urged the other Pharisees to consider Christ’s words before determining whether he spoke the truth, they sought to discredit him. The Pharisees’ argument was based on the assumption that in all scripture, no prophet had ever come out of Galilee. They probably made the assumption that Jesus was from Galilee because most of his followers were from there, but he was born in Bethlehem in fulfillment of the scriptures (v. 42, cf. Micah 5:2). In addition, the Pharisees forgot that there was a prophet who came from the area known as Galilee. Jonah was called by God to go to Nineveh from the city of Gath-Hepher (2 Kings 14:25).” ESV Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible Notes
