Prophet Jeremiah Told Not to Marry

Jeremiah 16:2, “You shall not take a wife, nor shall you have sons or daughters in this place.” ESV

“Jeremiah was told not to marry because of the horrors that families with children would endure during the siege of Jerusalem.” ESV Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible Notes

If given a choice, a parent would rather suffer, than see their child suffer. It may seem cruel that God told Jeremiah not to marry, but he was spared the excruciating suffering of a parent watching their child die.
