God’s Treasured Possession

Exodus 19:5, “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine.” ESV

“God made a conditional promise to the Israelites that if they would obey him and keep his covenant, he would regard and treat them in a special way…The designations ‘royal priesthood’ and ‘a holy nation’ are also applied to Christians in 1 Peter 2:9, 10.” ESV Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible Notes

1 Peter 2:9, 10, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” ESV

When God records your name in his “Book of Life” you become as those who are native-born.

Psalms 87:4, “Among those who know me I mention Rahab [Egypt] and Babylon [Iraq]; behold Philistia [plain on the southwest coast of Palestine], Tyre [Lebanon], with Cush [Ethiopia] – ‘This one was born there [in Zion], they say.'” ESV

“God will list them in his royal register as those who are native (born) citizens of his royal city, having all the privileges and enjoying all the benefits and security of such citizenship.” NIV Study Bible Notes

“Book of Life – God’s royal list of the righteous, whom he blesses with life…In the New Testament the ‘Book of Life’ refers to God’s list of those destined for eternal life.” NIV Study Bible Notes

How do you get your name written in the “Book of Life?”

John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father [God] except through me.'” ESV

It’s as easy as ABC:

A – Accept that you are a sinner. Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” ESV

B – Believe that Jesus paid for your sin. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ESV

C – Confess Jesus is Lord. Romans 10: 9, 10, “Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” ESV

If you took that step today, your life will never be the same. Let me know in the comments. Your name and comments will be kept private. I don’t have anything to sell and I am not taking donations. I just want to pray for you.

You are now God’s treasured possession!
