It has been over 20 years since I had a preschool child and I forgot the ages and stages of childhood. Olivia is happy to let me baby her, but that is not in her best interest. I need to pay attention to the skills she has already accomplished.
God commanded Moses to record the stages of the journey through the wilderness.
Numbers 33:2, “Moses wrote down their starting places, stage by stage, by command of the Lord, and these are their stages according to their starting places.” ESV
I am not to do anything to discourage her in her battles to master life skills.
Numbers 32:7, “Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land that the Lord has given them?” ESV
If the people of Gad and Reuben did not help the rest of the Israelites gain their inheritance, it was a sin.
Numbers 32:20-23, “So Moses said to them, ‘If you do this, if you will take up arms to go before the Lord for war, and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the Lord, until he has driven out his enemies from before him and the land is subdued before the Lord; then after that you shall return and be free of obligation to the Lord and to Israel, and this land shall be your possession before the Lord. But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.'” ESV
We are in a war. I pray I do not let down my standards or discourage anyone from sticking to theirs, causing them to lose heart. Thank you for reminding me that abstaining from the battle is a sin.
