Temptations

How are you doing with your New Year’s Resolutions?

I started mine on December 30th and did great for two days. I actually did not keep my resolution on New Year’s Day!

Epic. Fail.

The wonderful thing about following Jesus Christ is his mercies are new every morning, see Lamentations 2:22, 23. His love and faithfulness never fail. Every day is the first day of the rest of your life!

I can start over today!

We read the Lord’s prayer today and I memorized verse 13 as, “Lead us not into temptation…” My new Bible, the New Living Translation, makes that verse clearer.

Matthew 6:13, “And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.” NLT

Temptations are not from God.

James 1:13, 14, “And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, ‘God is tempting me.’ God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.” NLT

1 Corinthians 10:13, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” NLT

Temptations come from the evil one, see Matthew 4:1; Luke 4:2, 13. It can also come when we deprive ourselves, see 1 Corinthians 7:5. That’s why Joyce Meyer wrote a book called, “Eat the Cookie, Buy the Shoes.” It is better to do things in moderation than to deprive ourselves and then binge on a package of cookies!

Philippians 4:5, “Let your moderation be known unto all men…” KJV
