When you die, how do you want to be remembered? Your name may be forgotten, but your reputation will not.

I’ve always admired the wife of Phinehas. To be married to a priest, she would have been the daughter of a priest and a virgin.

Her husband was terrible. He was cheating on her (1 Samuel 2:22), and taking whatever he wanted from the sacrifices at the temple (1 Samuel 2:12-17).

Yet, she never lost her faith.

1 Samuel 4:21, “She named the child Ichabod (which means, ‘Israel’s glory is gone’). She named him this because the Ark of God had been captured and because her father-in-law and husband were dead.” NLT

She grieved first for the loss of the presence of God and then for her father-in-law. He probably treated her better than her husband.

When I am gone, I hope others see God was first in my life.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for the reminder that you are first.
