Taxes

We had our tax appointment today.

Our goal is to neither owe taxes nor get a large refund.

I was concerned because David was unemployed for 3 months and we had to get insurance in the health marketplace. They made a few errors when we signed up. They misspelled our last name and put me on the wrong plan.

The subsidy for being on the wrong plan for a month had to be repaid, even though I couldn’t get a refund on the premium I paid, and ended up paying two premiums on two different plans for that month.

We had a state refund that will cover the bill and considered changing our withholding for this year. Our accountant advised us to wait a year, because we have no way to forecast any new taxes that will be implemented in July.

We are just trying to seal up the cracks.

Today we read about King David’s victories over the: Philistines, Moabites, Arameans, Edomites, Ammonites, Amalekites, and the cities of Zobah, Tebah, and Berothai. You would think the Psalm he wrote after those victories would be jubilant…but it wasn’t.

Psalms 60:1, 2, “You have rejected us, O God, and broken our defenses. You have been angry with us; now restore us to your favor. You have shaken our land and split it open. Seal the cracks, for the land trembles.” NLT

Last year our defenses were broken and we were shaken, but we always had God’s favor. We are trying to be diligent to seal up the cracks.

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for taking care of us. We know that all blessings come from you, and even when we are cheated, you will make us come out ahead. Show us any cracks we need to seal.

Amen
