At the nursing home service today, the text for the sermon was the story of Lazarus. Mary and Martha prayed fervently and thought their prayers went unanswered.

Instead, 4 days later, Jesus came and raised Lazarus from the dead. God didn’t answer their prayer in the way they expected.

Do you know why all bodies are laid to rest facing east? It is because someday the dead, who died believing in Christ, will rise to meet him in the air. This is one of the basic teachings of Christ – we will rise again.

Hebrews 6:2, “You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.” New Living Translation

Dear Father God,

I know someday that my dad will meet you in the air. Soon after, those of us who are still alive will meet Jesus in the air. I know I will see him again. Thank you for the hope we have in Christ. I pray that you will comfort those whose grief is fresh.

In Jesus Name,
