Washing

It has been in the 80’s this week, that means sweat which makes dirt stick to you. How do we stay clean?

We cannot take a shower in the morning and call ourselves clean for the next 24 hours. All day we are bombarded with dirt, pollen, and sweat. During the day we wash off dirt as it accumulates. That is why we frequently wash our hands, and sometimes shower more than once.

How do we stay free?

Galatians 5:1, “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” New Living Translation

We stay free the same way we stay clean, frequent washing. How? We wash with the word of God.

Ephesians 5:26, “To make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.” New Living Translation

Paul talked about the slavery of the law. There were so many that no one was able to keep them all.

We have our own version of the law: don’t drink, smoke, cuss, do drugs, etc. Our rules used to ban playing cards and going to movies. But it is not about keeping rules. It’s about the grace of Jesus Christ.

G – God’s

R – Riches

A – At

C – Christ’s

E – Expense

I come to the cross and ask Jesus to be the Lord of my life. One by one, Jesus removes the desire to drink, smoke, cuss, etc. He replaces it with something better. He fills you with such joy and laughter that people may think you are drunk!

To stay free, we must spend time with Jesus every day. Talk to him. Read the letter God wrote to us, aka the Bible. And during the day when we slip up, ask for forgiveness, and use the word to wash away the stain.

2 Corinthians 5:21, “For God made Christ who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” New Living Translation

I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

Dear Father God,

Thank You for making a way for us to be forgiven of our sins. Thank You for forgiving and forgetting them. Thank You for never giving up on us.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
