I keep an inventory of the colors of my t-shirts, with varying necklines and sleeves. I referred to it when shopping last weekend and again when I placed an order online this morning. I was looking for what was missing.
I added two styles in navy and replaced two styles in turquoise because they had holes. By looking for what was missing, I purchased only the items I needed.
Revelation 7:4, “And I heard how many were marked with the seal of God – 144,000 were sealed from all the tribes of Israel.” New Living Translation
David was reading the chapters out loud this morning, and after reading Revelation 7:4-8, he asked, “Who is missing?” He discovered the tribe of Dan was not listed. Manasseh replaced Dan.
“What happened to Dan?”
“If we assume Dan is removed due to its idolatry (Judges 18:30, 31), then Manasseh is added to fill Dan’s place to keep the number twelve. Possibly the return of Levi and exclusion of Dan indicated that the Levitical priesthood was over…” Biblical Hermeneutics
When Israel blessed his children in Genesis 49:1-27, he gave Joseph a double portion, Genesis 48:5. Joseph was split into two tribes: Ephraim and Manasseh. Levi was not listed in Numbers 1 because they were the tribe of the priesthood, (dedicated to the Lord), and they received no land. In Revelation, Levi is on the list and Dan is not.
Dear Father God,
Thank You for the reminder that we do not have to earn our salvation through religious activities. Jesus Christ paid the full price when He died on the cross at Calvary. Thank You for the reminder that You are a holy God! Help us to not give in to temptations today. We want You first in our lives.
In Jesus Name,
