Compliments

When I met David, he was shy and quiet. I did most of the talking on our first dates.

The high school principal commented on how much he changed over twenty years. I said “I really brought him out of his shell.”

“No,” he replied, “I think it was the Dale Carnegie course he took.”

Awkward

Whenever I try to pat myself on the back, I end up, figuratively, breaking my arm. I heard what I wanted to hear. Funny, how we remember only the compliments.

Daniel 2:32, 37, “The head of the statue was made of fine gold…Your Majesty, you are the greatest of kings. The God of heaven has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and honor.” New Living Translation

Daniel 3:1, “King Nebuchadnezzar made a gold statue ninety feet tall and nine feet wide and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.” New Living Translation

He remembered the gold and that he was the greatest of kings. He forgot that his sovereignty, power, strength, and honor came from God.

Dear Father God,

Thank You for everything you have given to me. I know I have done none of it myself. Thank You for the reminder that without You, I am nothing.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
