Today we celebrated the life of Gary. The program listed the dates of his birth and death; but the most important date was given later.
Gary loved to tell the story…”When I was 20, I was sitting in my car, and I said, ‘God, if you are real, show me.’ The Spirit of God filled my car and it shook the whole car!”
The most important date was when he believed in God. He believed that Jesus Christ was the son of God, he was crucified, and God raised him from the dead.
Gary worked at a local factory for 40 years. None of his coworkers could attend the memorial service because of mandatory overtime. His 40 years of hard work were forgotten. The year he accepted Christ was not.
In the end, your title, salary, and years of service won’t matter. What will matter is the date God called your name, and you said, “Yes!”
Ezekiel remembered the date God called him. It was the first thing he wrote in his book.
Ezekiel 1:1, “On July 31 of my thirtieth year, while I was with the Judean exiles beside the Kebar River in Babylon, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.” New Living Translation
“Hebrew On the fifth day of the fourth month, of the ancient Hebrew lunar calendar. A number of dates in Ezekiel can be cross-checked with dates in surviving Babylonian records and related accurately to our modern calendar. This event occurred on July 31, 593 B.C.” New Living Translation Notes
