Ezekiel 16 is an accurate picture of what we were like when we came to Christ. Every one of us was: unclean, naked, unwanted, dumped, left to die, bloody, and stinky! God accepted us just the way we were. He covered our nakedness and made a covenant with us.

Ezekiel 16:8, 9, “…So I wrapped my cloak around you to cover your nakedness and declared my marriage vows. I made a covenant with you, says the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine. Then I bathed you and washed off your blood, and I rubbed fragrant oils into your skin.” New Living Translation

The best word in these verses is ‘then.” God didn’t clean us up before we became his. He claimed us as his own and then he cleaned us and removed our stink!

We think we have to clean ourselves up before we come to God, or work for him. Only God can clean us. Don’t disqualify yourself because you feel unclean. God will not only wash you, he will provide clothing and food. It’s a process that doesn’t happen all at once. And the process never ends! God keeps washing us to make us more and more like Christ.

Satan is the one telling you that you are not “clean” enough. He says you have sin in your life. He accuses us every day, Revelation 2:11.

But when we accept Christ, believe he died for us and rose again, his blood washes our sin white.

Dear Father God,

Thank you for accepting me just the way I was. Make me more like Christ every day.

In Jesus Name,
