Moses grew up in the palace of Pharaoh. The Egyptians worshiped many gods and each one had a name. They worshiped the river Nile, gnats, flies, frogs, etc. This is why he asked God what his name was.
The Hebrews were taught constantly about the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Moses knew he was a Hebrew, but this may have been the first time he heard of the God of his ancestors.
Maybe you didn’t grow up attending church. Maybe you grew up in a godless house. Don’t worry about it. When God sees you studying the Bible, He will speak to you.
Exodus 3:4, “When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, ‘Moses! Moses!’ ” New Living Translation
God knows you are searching
and He knows your name!
Dear Father God,
I am grateful that You are my God. Thank You for giving us the Bible that we can take a closer look and find You. Help us to see everything in it.
In Jesus Name,
