Talk

I’m a comedienne and actress. My favorite thing is to say something crazy with a straight face, and after I get a reaction, deliver the explanation in a punch line. Those who know me well always assume I am trying to be funny. . . and sometimes fail. Those who do not know me well can never tell if I’m serious or not!

When I am taking Prednisone, it is as if my discretion slips. Stupids thoughts go into my head and I am sometimes shocked when I hear them come out of my mouth.

Last weekend, while on Prednisone, I made a crazy statement to one of our Pastors. I saw shock, confusion, and concern wash over his face. I could tell I was going to get a sermon when David delivered the punch line.

When I read today’s verse, I remembered the incident and God brought another verse to my attention.

Leviticus 4:2, “. . . This is how you are to deal with those who sins unintentionally by doing anything that violates one of the Lord’s commands.” New Living Translation

Ephesians 5:4, “Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes – these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.” New Living Translation

I would never share an obscene story or a coarse joke but that conversation fit the category of foolish talk. Other translations refer to it as silly talk, flippant talk, or worthless words. It was an unintentional sin, nevertheless, it was a sin.

We no longer have to sacrifice a bull or lamb when we sin. All we have to do is confess our sin and God will forgive us.

1 John 1:9, “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” New Living Translation

We also need to confess to one another.

James 5:16, “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” New Living Translation

Dear Father God,

Thank You for paying the penalty for my sin. Thank You for forgiveness. This was a painful lesson to learn. Help me to not repeat it!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
