Ineptitude

We have been very careful with our money. Our credit score couldn’t go any higher. Things have changed since we first got married. As a couple, the credit score applied to both of you. That is no longer the case.

Our credit cards are in both of our names. I had a store credit card in only my name, but they closed it because I didn’t use it. I knew I had to have one card in my name.

I applied to a card similar to the one we shared but they denied me for “lack of credit activity.” (My husband wouldn’t agree with them, but the activity is on the card with his name listed first.)

I was shopping at my favorite clothing store, and on a whim, applied for their credit card. They placed that order on the card. I only charged once that month, and when the bill came we paid it electronically.

Then I received a second bill, saying we had not paid. They had misspelled my first name and the electronic payment was never processed. We sent proof of our attempt to pay it and pointed out their mistake.

They called to say they were investigating and we would receive a letter in two weeks. They issued another card. We waited for a corrected bill or a letter saying they had straightened everything out.

Friday, I received an email saying my bill was past due. Saturday, the bill finally came in the mail. In 3 months, they destroyed the credit I had maintained for 30 years.

I paid the bill, and all their charges, and closed the account. I will not let their ineptitude destroy my good name.

Proverbs 5:9, “Lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel.” Modern English Version

“All your tomorrows are in God’s hands. And just because you don’t understand the path you’re on, doesn’t mean He isn’t leading you. . . . Isaiah 42:16 . . . However long the night, morning will come – and with it His joy. Looking back, you’ll realize that His grace has protected you, provided for you, calmed you, comforted you, and brought you through. 2 Corinthians 1:4, ‘He comforts us in all our troubles.’ New Living Translation”
