Repented

John 13:2, “Now supper being concluded, the devil had put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him.” Modern English Version

Which Simon? Judas Iscariot was Simon’s son – Simon Peter’s or Simon the Zealot’s?

“Iscariot means ‘man from Kerioth’. . . Judas seems to have been the only non-Galilean among the Twelve. One of the Twelve – Therefore one of the last persons likely to betray Jesus.” New International Version Study Bible Notes on John 6:71

After I determined who the father of Judas Iscariot was, I continued reading. I thought of Judas when I read the conversation Jesus had with Peter.

Luke 22:32, “But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have repented, strengthen your brothers.” Modern English Version

Judas repented, but his faith failed. He followed the voice of the devil and hung himself, (see Matthew 27:3-5).

This is the beauty of Christ’s sacrifice. He paid the penalty for all sins – past, present, and future. We are forgiven before we sin! But we must repent and have faith to believe we are forgiven. When we fail, repent, and are forgiven, we are to use our story to strengthen our brothers.
