I opened my devotional today and realized what a sense of humor God has! The verse was Hebrews 12:1, “Let us strip off every weight that slows us down.” How appropriate for the day after Easter dinner!

I am happy to report that when I stepped on the scale I saw it went down 4 ounces. I’m not surprised. I was up at 5 am for devotions, set up the keyboards, played 7 songs, tore them down, and hosted Easter dinner with 11 family members.

After dinner, I made countless trips up and down the stairs bringing the food and dirty dishes to the kitchen. I spent another hour finding places for the leftovers in the refrigerator and loading the dishwasher. I had my 10,000 steps in before 3 pm!

Sometimes, we are let down after a holiday. You work hard and anticipate time with your family. The disciples went through the greatest sorrow, watching Jesus die, followed by the greatest victory when He rose from the dead.

Now what?

Luke 24:52, 53, “Then they worshipped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.” Modern English Version

We worshipped Jesus at Easter and returned to our homes with great joy. How do we keep that joy alive? By continuing to meet in the temple, praising and blessing God.

Joy is a fire fed by spending time with other believers. You cannot survive by going to church on Easter and Christmas. You need your brothers and sisters, praising God with them, every week.

After dinner, my family watched, “Family Feud.” The competition between my family members was amazing. They cheered like it was a football game at a popular answer and collectively groaned at some of the responses. A few went outside to play ball.

I went to my room where my daughter had taken my granddaughter to watch a kid’s show. When my granddaughter left for her Nana’s Easter Egg Hunt and dinner, (I’m Grandma Pam), Laura just drifted off to sleep.

I was hot and sweaty from cleaning up the kitchen. I took a cool shower, laid down next to my daughter, turned on a movie, and dozed off myself. I woke up refreshed 20 minutes later. That is how I feel after Wednesday night service – like I just took a refreshing shower and had a short nap.

Today I will wash the linens and put away the extra serving dishes. As the washer hums, I will practice the worship songs for Wednesday night – where I get my second wind for the week.
