“Flowing train (a badge of dignity in the East) . . .” Critical and Explanatory Commentary, Vol. I
At Jesus’ transfiguration, his garments became as white as the light, (see Matthew 17:2). God covered himself with light as a garment, (see Psalms 104:12). God’s “robe” is light, and that light filled the temple.
Isaiah described God’s garments to the best of his ability. But it was more than just light. It reflected:
- Dignity.
- Honor and Majesty, Psalms 104:12.
- Hidden Power, Habakkuk 3:4.
- Majesty and Strength, Psalms 93:1.
- Splendor and greatness of Strength, Isaiah 63:1.
