Teacher

After another “Prednisone night” of tossing and turning, flipping and flopping, I wondered if I would ever sleep again! When I saw the light through the crack in the curtain, I groaned and then asked God, “What do You want me to do today?”

“Make pancakes.”

What? I’m on Prednisone! I dreaded stepping on the bathroom scale. It went up again. It’s creeping up each day.

I grabbed a cup of coffee and on my way to my office, His still, small voice said, “Set the activity alarm on your fitness tracker.”

That made sense. I sat down at my desk and noticed the new batteries for the bathroom scale. The Spirit of God whispered to me, “Fresh batteries change everything.”

I asked David to pick up the batteries because one morning I weighed myself three times and got three different numbers – seven pounds apart! I took the battery out to get the number on the back and noticed a sliver of paper underneath. I thought that was the problem. I started getting the same weight but when I didn’t I recorded the smaller one!

When I  write, “God told me” or the “Spirit of God,” I mean the same thing as when I write, the “Holy Spirit,” told me. It is similar to hearing the voice of your conscience.

“When you’re indwelt by the Holy Spirit and relying on His power rather than your own, which means being sensitive to His leading and obeying His commands, you’re no longer controlled by ‘the law of sin and death.’ It’s no longer about trying harder, but leaning harder on God’s Spirit who lives within you and drawing from Him the strength to live victoriously.” facebook.com/The WordForYouTodayUSA/

Isaiah 30:20, 21, “. . . yet He, your Teacher, will no longer hide Himself . . . Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left.” Modern English Version

Using the activity tracker is a tool that not only will help me get through this round of Prednisone, it will be a habit to improve my health. The new battery will make me face my “number of the day” because I can’t blame the dying battery.

And the pancakes?

I needed those to ward off hunger later this evening. My pattern was to eat a light breakfast and a light lunch but then I would be hungry after supper. My plan this time will be a big breakfast, substantial lunch, and a normal supper to keep me away from snacks and eating in the evening.

I won’t try harder, I will lean harder on the Holy Spirit – especially since David bought a 2-layer chocolate cake for Mother’s Day!

Isaiah 33:2, “O Lord, be gracious to us; we have waited for You. Be our strength every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.” Modern English Version
