The nurse put 20 doses of allergens on Derek’s forearms.
“Look at that! You’re allergic to milk!”
“Great,” I responded, “he’s engaged to the daughter of a dairy farmer!”
After establishing the things he reacted to right away, the nurse prepared stronger doses of the slow responding allergens. He showed me how to measure the reactions at 24 hours and 48 hours. Then he set a timer and we visited to pass the time.
Earlier, I had explained about my severe reactions when tested and that I didn’t leave the house much now. He asked about my writing. I told him frugalfish.org showed how I save money but I tell you what you don’t want to hear: use what you have before purchasing, and sometimes, do without.
He made a face of mock horror at that last phrase!
I laughed and said, “It’s not a popular blog but I did retire when I was 46!”
It was harder trying to explain about this blog. For 7 years I have read the same chapters as my readers and recorded a verse or phrase that was relevant to what was happening in my life today. My goal is for my readers to find their verse or phrase for their day.
The timer went off and he measured the welts. The doctor came in and checked on Derek. They didn’t want us to have to stop at an ER on the way home! His arm looked like he fell into a hornet’s nest! They decided to give him Benadryl right away and make sure the reactions stopped. We’ll have to do the slow reacting ones at another time. (I figured this would happen and I knew he would need someone to drive him home.)
This morning I was thinking about our conversation. I felt guilty for pointing out that my blogs are not popular. I know God has a plan. Writing these daily posts are as natural to me as breathing. He confirmed it in today’s verses.
Isaiah 49:2, 6, “He has made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of His hand He has hidden me and made me a select arrow; in His quiver He has hidden me. . . . He says, . . . ‘I will also make you a light to the nations so that My salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.’ ” Modern English Version
I am hidden in a shadow but God has a select purpose for me. Years from now people from other nations can read these posts and see that the Bible was relevant for me today in what I am dealing with today. The Bible is alive and will always be applicable. I will continue to share what God shows me for the rest of my life.
