Tornadoes

The thunder rolled in at 3 am and woke me up. We had tornadoes in our county a few times over the last two weeks and I realized, if one hit, I would be barefoot and in my pajamas!

David and Derek store their clothes in the laundry room. It’s huge, with a bathroom on one end. They love their “locker room” because they can shower, dress, and deal with their dirty clothes all in one place.

I’ve taken over 2 closets upstairs. One for spring/summer and the other for fall/winter. If a tornado came through in the middle of the night, the men could dress in the safety of the full basement. I got up, unplugged all the electronics, and took the clothes I laid out for today downstairs.

Isaiah 52:1, “Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, . . .” Modern English Version

I crawled back in bed and remembered the tornadoes on Wednesday. When the siren went off, we headed for the basement. I wasn’t sure if I unplugged my Chromebook and started back up the stairs.

Halfway up, I saw horizontal wind through the patio door and changed my mind. The wind came up so quickly and was so strong, that 2 semi-trailer trucks blew over on their sides on the 4-lane a mile away blocking traffic. A tree uprooted 6 blocks away and knocked out our electricity for a few hours.

What I remembered most was being thirsty. I didn’t know how long the electricity would be out and didn’t want to open the refrigerator. We bought four cases of water yesterday; I made a mental note to take one to the basement.

There is one more area I need to deal with before the next tornado comes through – under the stairs. It is the safest place to “ride out a storm” but I have extra dishes stored under there. I am going to have to find an alternative storage area before the next storm hits! I may need to depart in a hurry!

Isaiah 52:11, “Depart, depart, go out from there, touch no unclean thing; go out of the midst of her; be clean, you who bear the vessels of the Lord.” Modern English Version

Looks like I have my assignments for today!
