Envying

“At the last supper, Jesus removed his robe, put on the towel of a servant, and washed the disciple’s feet. When he finished, he removed the towel, put his robe back on, and returned to his seat of honor at the table.

He did the same when he descended from heaven. He removed his kingly robe and put on a robe of flesh, becoming a man. When he ascended, he removed the robe of flesh, put on his kingly robe, and sat down at the right hand of God.

The horror of the cross was not the pain; it was the shame. Jesus despised the shame placed on him at the cross. Being Christ-like, or a Christian, is not ‘don’t do this,’ it is taking that off and putting this on.”

Ken Graves, Faith Conference, 6-14-17

I struggled with envy last night. When those feeling hit, I chose to ignore them. I did not act on them, discuss the situation, or give it a place to take root.

I wish I would never have envy again. I cannot overcome it by wishful thinking. I have to purposely take it off and put on something else.

James 4:14-17, “But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, do not boast and do not lie against the truth. This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, and devilish. For where there is envying and strife, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” Modern English Version

When I feel envious, I will set the feelings aside and put on: peace, gentleness, mercy, and impartiality.
