What Shall I Do?

In last night’s sermon, Pastor Monte Knudsen encouraged us to pray for our leaders. He reminded us that governing authorities are servants of God for our good, (see Romans 13:4). “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice….” Proverbs 29:2 Modern English Version. We are also to pray for our school board members.

My prayer list is in two sections. The first section is for those things I pray for daily. The section has seven divisions.

  • Sunday – Church Service
  • Monday – Family
  • Tuesday – Church Family
  • Wednesday – Government
  • Thursday – Schools
  • Friday – Personal Needs
  • Saturday – Missionaries

I looked up the names of those serving in the federal government and those representing Iowa there. I have the names of those serving in Iowa representing our district. I included those serving our county and those serving in our city. There is one blank space as one of our representatives recently passed away.

Today, I googled the names of the school board members in town and at the school my granddaughter attends. It encouraged me to record the names of those I know are Christians.

Then I realized one school board president is running for the vacant representative seat. I looked up his opponent. In my searching, I ran across an article stating our City Administrator is resigning.

Romans 16:23, “Gaius, who is host to me and to the whole church, greets you. Erastus, who is the city treasurer, and our brother Quartus greet you.” Modern English Version

* * * * * * *

“…Romans was the sixth of Paul’s letters, written in Corinth…” Modern English Version Introduction to Romans

These were greetings from Christians in Corinth to the Christians in Rome. The city treasurer/administrator in Corinth was a Christian. Pastor Monte encourages us to serve in a civic capacity.

Acts 22:10, “I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ ” Modern English Version

I’m not called to serve in politics, on the school board, or on the town council. But I must pray. I pray for those currently serving to have wisdom and I pray God will fill these two open positions with righteous men or women.
