Like Breaking Your Own Leg

Last night I had a nightmare. I dreamt my flesh was open and I could see my small intestines. I knew I needed to go to the doctor. The doctor told me I had to go to Iowa City!

No one could take me. Although I wasn’t bleeding in my dream, I did feel light-headed. I tried to dress. Disoriented, I put on 2 different earrings and 2 different socks. I finally told David I was too weak to drive.

He said, “I have to go to work.”

“That’s it,” I replied, “I’m calling Jane, (my mother-in-law)!” Then I woke up.

God speaks to us in dreams. (I have no idea what he was trying to tell me last night!)

Genesis 20:3, “But God came to Abimelek in a dream by night and said to him, ‘You are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.’ ” Modern English Version

God doesn’t strike a man with lightning when he sleeps with another man’s wife but something dies. Even if she leaves her husband and marries the man, he will always wonder, “Will she leave me someday?”

Building a good marriage takes trust and confidence in your spouse. Doubt does not make a good foundation. Sleeping with another man’s wife is like breaking your own leg.
