Turn Aside

My Mom is too cool. When I grow up, I want to be just like her! She never stops. She lives her life to the fullest – even though Dad is now in heaven.

When others are thinking of retirement and slowing down, she just keeps making plans. She turned 80 this year and to celebrate she decided…

“Road Trip!”

She called my sisters and I and asked us to accompany her to the east coast. My brother lives in Virginia and she wants a picture of all her children together. So we are abandoning our husbands to fulfill her birthday wish.

I’m excited about the trip but I have one concern. (It’s not being confined in a car for 10 hours each day or the driving.)

It’s my quiet time. My source of peace and strength is my time praying and reading the Bible. I am normally home alone. I can pray and read out loud. I won’t be alone for a week. Then I read today’s verse.

Genesis 28:19, “He called the name of that place Bethel, but previously the name of the city was called Luz.” Modern English Version

“The name Luz comes from the verb meaning to turn aside.” abarim-publications.com/Meaning/Luz.html#.WdunjRmGPrc

“The name Bethel consists of two elements. The first part of the name…meaning house. The second part is El, the common abbreviation of Elohim, the Hebrew word for God.” abarim-publications.com/Meaning/Bethel.html#.Wdun4hmGPrc

That verse tells me God will lead me to a place to turn aside and spend time with Him each day. Wherever I turn aside will become a house of God. I look forward to what He will show me there.
