I Will Give You Rest

Every day I look to the Bible for guidance and direction. Even on days when I don’t write a post, I still read the assigned chapters. Yesterday, I read and God told me to wait until today to write the post. That’s why there are two posts published today. God wants to give us rest.

Exodus 33:14, “And He said, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’ ” Modern English Version

After taking the day off yesterday, I thought of a few things I should do today. I should decorate for Thanksgiving since I failed to decorate in October. I should bake a pumpkin pie since I forgot to make one for Pastor Appreciation Sunday. (At least David remembered to give a gift.) I should get out my memorabilia from the plays to put in the shadow boxes I purchased last night since my high school shadow box is still unfinished.

I get this sense of urgency that I need to do it now. I gave in to that “urgency” and called the bank with a question. They told me they couldn’t help me and to call back on Monday to speak with one who could. All these tasks were running through my head when I read today’s verse.

Exodus 32:13, “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying, ‘You must surely keep My Sabbaths, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.” Modern English Version

God reminded me that I planned to make today my “Sabbath.” Now there are two things on the calendar for tomorrow. The day will be full. I have to take today to rest. I think I will start with a nap!
