John 7 shows the contrast between the way Jesus lived and the way they expected him to live.

They expected him to :

• Seek publicity, 7:4.
• Do everything out in the open, 7:4.
• Show the world what He could do, 7:4.
• Make Himself look good, 7:18.
• Tamper with reality, 7:18.

John 7:10, “But he kept out of the way, careful not to draw attention to himself.” The Message

We are bombarded with expectations. We need unforced rhythms of grace. They can only be found in Jesus.

Matthew 11:28-30, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” The Message
