When I read this story before I pictured an old man – possibly recovering from a stroke. But reading it today in The Message, I realized it could have been a young man.

The King James Version called it “dropsy.” The Modern English Version called it “edema.”

Luke 14:2, “Right before him was a man hugely swollen in his joints.” The Message

Edema is treated by curing the underlying condition. Jesus cured his heart, liver, or kidneys.
