It’s Not Worth It

Today I read of two attacks on David, one on his reputation and the other on his family. What would have happened if David had defended his reputation? He would have lost his family and all that he owned.

1 Samuel 29:6, “So Achish had to send for David and tell him, ‘As God lives, you’ve been a trusted ally – excellent in all the ways you have worked with me, beyond reproach in the ways you have conducted yourself. But the warlords don’t see it that way. So its best that you leave peacefully now. It’s not worth it….” The Message

David took his men and went home. There he found his city burned to the ground and his family and everything he owned gone! His men were so mad that they threatened to stone him!

1 Samuel 30:6, “David strengthened himself with trust in his God.” The Message

Psalms 35:1, 2, “Harass these hecklers, God, punch these bullies in the nose. Grab a weapon, anything at hand; stand up for me!” The Message

Psalms 35:4, “When those thugs try to knife me in the back, make them look foolish.” The Message

After pouring his complaint out to God – he let it go! He was then a peacemaker for the very men who wanted to stone him!

1 Samuel 30:23, ” ‘Families don’t do this sort of thing! Oh no, my brothers!’ said David as he broke up the argument. ‘You can’t act this way with what God gave us. God kept us safe.’ ” The Message

“We know about Job’s troubles, but we tend to forget they were just for a short season in an otherwise very blessed life. The time Joseph spent in prison was eclipsed by the years of influence and privilege he enjoyed as the number-two man in Pharaoh’s palace….It’s time you stopped worrying and started believing God’s promises to you! He hasn’t brought you this far to abandon you, see Psalms 23:6; John 15:16; Isaiah 55:11.” The Word for You Today, 2-8-2018
