I’m sure it is a common keyboard players injury caused by standing on one foot. The other leg pumps the damper pedal up and down while you play. Imagine riding your bike up a hill. You stand up but can only use one leg to pedal.
At 3:36 a.m., I could not find a comfortable position for my leg. Sports cream didn’t help. Resigned, I got up at four and found swelling in my Tibialis Anterior muscle. Ibuprofen and R.I.C.E., (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), didn’t cure it. I moved my books and Chromebook to the couch. A heating pad offered some relief.
This has happened before. So, a few months ago, I raised my keyboard to practice while standing. I had hoped to strengthen the muscles in my legs.
But practicing…
- at home on Wednesday
- before the service with the team
- playing for the service
- again at home on Thursday
- and then practicing with Sunday’s team
…was too much.
My plans for the day were to spring clean the front room and kitchen. Then iron three tablecloths and the dress clothes I washed. Instead, I sat on the couch with my leg elevated.
Proverbs 16:1-3 “Mortals make elaborate plans, but God has the last word.
(2) Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; God probes for what is good.
(3) Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place.”
The Message
David called to take me out for lunch. Then Mom called to say she was in town. Had I followed “my plan” I would have been too hot and sweaty to go! I would have missed lunch out with David and Mom.
Proverbs 16:20, “It pays to take life seriously; things work out when you trust in God.” The Message

Proverbs 15:3, “God doesn’t miss a thing – He’s alert to good and evil alike.” The Message
I give up. I’m going to close the piano and place the keyboard on top of it. Sacrilege!!!
Then I will practice. But first, more ice – the swelling is back.
