The visitation for Stephanie’s dad was last night. Like every other female – I couldn’t decide what to wear. We used to have rules for what you wear at a visitation or funeral. There aren’t anymore.
I thought about Terry. He was a rancher who loved motorcycles. The flowers reflected those loves. A cowboy hat held one arrangement. Another was in a cowboy boot. They fit Terry.
I had nothing in common with him – except my niece and jeans! I pulled out my nicest pair and a navy 3/4 length sleeved tee-shirt. It was warm in the sun but felt good in the air conditioner.
I watched the slide-show of pictures. Then chose a seat on the opposite side of the room. “Look at me, God, I’m such a wallflower.”
But, flowers attract bees. By the end of the evening, others had pulled chairs into a circle with me. We are all just plain folks.
1 Peter 5:5-7, “…God has had it with the proud, but takes delight in just plain people. (6) So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. (7) Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.” The Message
