Holding Nothing Back

I blame the doughnut…and cookie.

After playing for worship, I went to the lobby for a snack. I was up at 4:30 a.m. and had put in several hours writing and playing. I thought the sugar boost would help.

It didn’t.

I returned to my seat and started taking notes. Pastor Gary’s face started wavering. Then I saw the aura the precedes a migraine.

I prayed through the sermon and mentally rehearsed my path to the keyboard. (There is very little light in the wings and a lot of cords.)

When it was time for the altar call, I walked between the first 2 curtains – right into a spotlight! I backed up and walked between the 2nd & 3rd curtain. I came out behind the 4th curtain because I knew there were no cords on the floor there.

I sat down, turned the keyboard on, set the sounds, and waited. Pastor started praying and I closed my eyes…and drifted off! I jumped when a noise in my monitor woke me up. Falling asleep in church is embarrassing. Falling asleep at the keyboards in front of everyone is mortifying! I hope they had their eyes shut!

Mercifully, the altar call was short. I packed up the keyboards and went home. I shut the curtains and dropped into bed for the rest of the day.

One of the songs we sang was “Holding Nothing Back” by Jesus Culture. I can honestly say I didn’t hold anything back. I thank God for getting me through the service.

We are reading how God does not hold back His anger. He also does not hold back his love. He gives it all.

Jeremiah 21:5, “…holding nothing back….” The Message

Romans 8:32, “If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending His own Son, is there anything else He wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us?” The Message
