Learning a New Song
I practiced the lead line for the song, “Great Things” by Phil Wickam. We are introducing it on Sunday. I was confident I had it memorized. I’ll play on the introduction, verse, instrumental, and outro. (Or, so I thought!)
On the drive to practice, we listened to it. I realized the introduction had 3 different lead lines! (Yikes! I only learned 2!)
Before practice, Derek announced the bass player would be teaching in Mt. Pleasant. He asked Rachel to cover the low notes.
(Whew! I dodged a bullet. I didn’t practice the chords – just the lead lines.)
We played through it a few times. Derek decided it was empty without a guitar and bass. He instructed…
“Mom, I want you to play chords on the chorus and bridge. Play the lead lines with your right hand and “Pamela” with your left.”
(“Pamela” steals the bass notes. lol)
No pressure. Yeah, right. It was rough. It’s “back to the drawing board…er, keyboard”…for me!
