Say Everything

May 27, 2019: Jeremiah 26, 46.

I tied the small Liberty Bell to the bottom of my patriotic wreath. I turned on the lights on the wreath for Memorial Day.

After I finished arranging my patriotic decorations, I took pictures. I posted the wreath on Instagram.com/frugalfishorg/. I was going to tell how I made it and where I got the supplies, but I remembered my verse.

Jeremiah 26:2, “…Say everything I tell you to say to them. Don’t hold anything back.” The Message

Memorial Day honors the soldiers that didn’t come home. That is what I wrote on my post.

Saw What Was Coming

May 26, 2019: Habakkuk 3; Psalms 77; Jeremiah 7.

I sought out Bev, who would be speaking at the Nursing Home Service, during the greeting time at church. I wanted to share the hymns I chose to go with her sermon.

But there was a last-minute change of plans. Paula would be speaking. I tracked her down and asked her sermon topic.

The hymns did not go with it. It couldn’t be helped. We decided to sing them anyway. If only I could have seen what was coming.

Habakkuk 3:10, “Mountains saw what was coming. They twisted in pain. Flood waters pour in. …” The Message

You know what they say: “When it rains, it pours.”

At the nursing home, I sat down at the Steinway and played the first chord. There was an odd thud. I opened the piano but couldn’t see anything. I moved up an octave and the thud was still there.

I found the lady in charge and told her there was something wrong with the piano.

“There can’t be,” she replied, “they just tuned it yesterday.”

I couldn’t demonstrate because the service had started. I told her I wasn’t going to play it. We sang acapella while the piano was deadly silent.

Jeremiah 7:34, “…no holiday sounds. Dead silence.” The Message

No Such Thing as Self-Rescue

May 25, 2019: Psalms 49-50; Habakkuk 1-2.

I joined a writer’s group yesterday. When I opened my email, I had 5 messages from them. The first one was a quiz to see where you were in the writing process.

I took the quiz.

The second email told me I needed to become a member by midnight – last night. I decided to read the rest on Tuesday.

Psalms 49:7-9, “There’s no such thing as self-rescue, pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. (8) The cost of rescue is beyond our means, and even then, it doesn’t guarantee (9) life forever, or insurance against the Black Hole.” The Message

I published my post, practiced the piano, and cleaned up for a funeral. I don’t mind going to funerals. They put this writing business into perspective.

Psalms 49:16-19, “So don’t be impressed with those who get rich and pile up fame and fortune. (17) They can’t take it with them; fame and fortune all get left behind. (18) Just when they think they’ve arrived and folks praise them because they’ve made good, (19) they enter the family burial plot where they’ll never see sunshine again.” The Message
