Let’s play a game of “What if.” What if some of the events in Revelation already took place.

I am not a prophet. I am not a Bible expert. I do not understand all the events in Revelation.

But I think of John the Baptist. He came in the spirit of Elijah, Luke 1:17; Matthew 17:12. The Jews were looking for the physical body of Elijah. They didn’t recognize him.

So – what if the scorpions that stung infected people with the HIV virus? (It’s not because Revelation 9:5-6 says the sting did not kill them.) Those who contract HIV suffer horribly and long to die. If that were so, would I live differently?

Revelation 9:20-21, “The remaining men and women who weren’t killed by these weapons went on their merry way – didn’t change their way of life, …didn’t quit centering their lives around lumps of gold… (21) There wasn’t a sign of a change of heart. …” The Message

There are horrific and unthinkable things happening every day. Do I just go on my merry way? Do I need to change my way of life? Is my life centered around money? Do I need a change of heart?

“Search me, O God.”
