The Sun Rises

COVID-19, “Shelter in Place” – Day 3

Journal – March 18, 2020: “I watched a video on boosting your immune system to fight the Coronavirus. This doctor claimed 1) It can be washed away with soap and water, and 2) It takes 4 minutes for alcohol to kill it but saltwater kills it in 1 minute. Unfortunately, I did not note his name. …”

It makes sense. Salt was used in the Bible.

Ezekiel 16:4, “This is how you were treated on the day you were born: Your umbilical cord wasn’t cut, you weren’t washed clean with water or rubbed with salt, and you weren’t wrapped in blankets.”

Common English Bible

“Ancient priests believed that both mother and child were defiled and in need of purification because of the blood that accompanies childbirth.”

Common English Bible Notes on Ezekiel 16:4

“…I used a saline sinus rinse and bent over for 30 seconds. I hoped to get the saline in my upper sinuses to unplug that clogged tear duct. Then I gargled with salty water.

The doctor recommended Black Elderberry Tea with Echinacea and a few vitamins and minerals. I read the dosage on my daily vitamin. I figured between it and the fresh fruits and vegetables I eat, I have it covered. …”

The 4 Steps for Essential Workers

1. Wash hands with soap or saline solution. You can make your own with 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water.

2. Fill the sink with warm water and salt. Dip your face in up to your ears. Blow air out of your nose.

3. Carry your pen.

4. Don’t panic.

I forgot to write his name down. Sigh.

“…At noon, I felt the buzz of a fever blister coming on. I normally swab the area with rubbing alcohol when I first feel it. I am out of alcohol. There is no alcohol available in town. I substituted hydrogen peroxide. …”

A friend called…

She listened to a sermon by Robert Morris on “How to Hear from God.” When she woke in the middle of the night, she followed the steps.

  1. Praise and worship to invite His presence.
  2. Pray and lay your burden down.
  3. Sit quietly.
  4. Write down whatever comes to your mind.

She heard the word “strive” and “James 1:12.” All she could think of was, “Strive to enter the narrow gate.”

Luke 13:24, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow gate. Many, I tell you, will try to enter and won’t be able to.”

Common English Bible

Then she read…

James 1:12, “Those who stand firm during testing are blessed. They are tried and true. They will receive the life God has promised to those who love him as their reward.”

Common English Bible

What comforting words to read during this Coronavirus Pandemic!

I remember Grandma W. telling me, “Every story in the Bible starts with the phrase, ‘It came to pass.’ This, too, shall pass.”

Ecclesiastes 1:3-9, “What do people gain from all the hard work that they work so hard at under the sun? 4) A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains as it always has. 5) The sun rises, the sun sets; it returns panting to the place where it dawns. 6) The wind blows to the south, goes around to the north; around and around blows the wind; the wind returns to its rounds once again. 7) All streams flow to the sea, but the sea is never full; to the place where the rivers flow, there they continue to flow. 8) All words are tiring; no one is able to speak. The eye isn’t satisfied with seeing, neither is the ear filled up by hearing. 9) Whatever has happened – that’s what will happen again; whatever has occurred – that’s what will occur again.”

Common English Bible

The sun will rise and set. The wind will move to blow from the south to usher in spring. The rivers will continue to flow.

Strive to stay in peace. Preserve unity. Rely on God’s grace. Make substitutions, if necessary!
